A Few Useful iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Battery Life Hacks

So, you’re one of the lucky sons of guns who got their hands on Apple’s latest brainchildren: the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus. Good for you! No matter how stellar the devices, you’d probably like to do whatever you can to improve the phone’s battery life. Who wouldn’t? Here are a few simple hacks to help you reduce your precious iPhone’s battery consumption. Some of them you might’ve heard of and used, others you may not have. Either way, it won’t hurt to try any and all of them, right?

Battery Life Hack #1: Say Yes to Auto-Lock

Your phone definitely doesn’t need to be on at all times or for longer periods of time. When your iPhone’s been inactive for a while, it’s useful to have Auto-Lock turn the device off automatically. To select which Auto-Lock interval works best for you, go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock and choose 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes (the less, the better). Can’t be simpler than that!

Battery Life Hack #2: Lower the Brightness

An oldie but a goldie! Dimming the brightness of the screen will definitely lower power consumption (scout’s honour!), so all you have to do is go to Settings > Display & Brightness and reduce the brightness for the benefit of your iPhone’s battery life.

Battery Life Hack #3: Name that Battery Hog

iPhone 6s app battery usage

iOS 8 and later versions of the operating system allow you to find the apps that use the most power. Go to General > Usage > Battery Usage and you’ll see which applications have been draining your battery life in the last 24 hours or a whole week.

N.B. Some apps will have a high percentage battery usage, but does not necessarily mean that they’re hogging your battery. You could just be using them a lot!

Battery Life Hack #4: Enable Location Only When Using an App

Back in the day (or up until iOS 7) you could only turn location services on or off. With the latest iOS versions you can enable an option called While Using the App, which means your location’s only on when the application’s running. To check which apps have recently used location services, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

Battery Life Hack #5: Let iOS Tell You What to Do

Actually, iOS can give you suggestions on what to do about your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus battery life. If you want to know what its advice is, go to General > Usage > Battery Usage. And say thanks afterwards. Good manners go a long way.
